WordPress 101 Guide: Content Setup

By default, WordPress has sample content already posted so something shows up when you check out your website. Let’s go in and change it up to get a better representation of what you want.

Posts

  • Click “Posts” on the left side menu
  • You will see “Hello World!” listed that you can hover over and delete.
  • Now click on “Add New” on the left side menu to create your own first post.
  • You’ll have a blank form where you can enter in all the information.
  • For a traditional website, posts are like your news & events. You add a new post when you want to share something.

Pages

  • Click “Pages” on the left side menu
  • You will see “Sample Page” listed that you can hover over and delete.
  • Now click on “Add New” on the left side menu to create your own page (About is usually a good one to start with)
  • You’ll have a blank form where you can enter in all the information.
  • Unlike posts, pages are not date oriented. It’s more like adding a section to your website (About, Services, Contact…)

Once you have entered some content into your site, then go take a look at it! Open a new web browser and type in your domain name.

Holy moly! It’s like your website built itself!
